HOW TO ADJUST YOUR PANT INSEAM

Dec 13, 2022

You did the fitting,

you made the adjustments to your pattern

When you walk your inseam, the front and back don’t match up!

Here are 2 ways you can make an adjustment to TRUE up your pattern.

This is shown by having to make the back pant 3/4” shorter than the front, 💙

But do keep mind, you can change the amount of difference or do this adjustment on the front if that is what you need in your case.

Also, the second example will alter your crotch curve. You may want to adjust that after to make sure it is what you need there.

The note about the crotch curve is the part I’d underline before changing anything. On a traced copy, I’d keep the original stitching line visible and mark the alteration in another colour. For a project from our Sewlore trouser collection, I’d first check whether the instructions call for any easing, then walk the adjusted seams and test the fit again. Getting the lengths to agree is useful, but I’d also want to know what changed in the way the trousers sit.
